Car Buying Tips - Consumer Alert:
Don't fall for scammers trying to get you to pay for purchases through phony but
realistic looking global cargo and shipping web sites they setup. Legitimate shipping
companies never handle payment of items all they do is ship. Use your head.
Call Western Union Fraud Department: 1-800-325-6000 if you have doubts about a Western
Union transfer. They will tell you where the money was picked up. You'll be surprised
to find the money you thought was being wired to an American is really a scammer
in Romania, UK, Spain, Italy.
Fraud Alerts:
1. SQUARE TRADE DOES NOT PERFORM ESCROW. IF SELLERS TELL YOU TO USE SQUARE TRADE,
IT'S A SCAM
2. Never ever email an eBay seller from an email address link listed in the auction.
Always use eBay's Contact Seller mechanism
3. EBAY DOES NOT DO ESCROW. ANY ESCROW SITE WITH EBAY IN THE NAME IS A SCAM
4. .ORG named escrow and payment sites are all fakes, no escrow company would ever
be a non-profit organization
5. Yahoo does not have Yahoo Agents who collect Western Union payments from you,
don't fall for it
6. If anyone tells you to pay via Intuit's PayTrust, or eBonza.com "payment
agents" via Western Union, then it's a fraud
7. If you are told to use an escrow site with BBB in the name it is a scam. Better
Business Bureau does not do escrow
8. Yahoo Does not guarantee any seller's listing to be secure or safe, don't fall
for these emails
9. Never EVER use any service recommended by the other party in your transaction!
10. Auto Trader does NOT inspect or guarantee listed cars, neither does Yahoo or
eBay Motors or Square Trade
11. eBay and Square Trade NEVER email you to certify a SPECIFIC seller as good or
use Western Union
12. The real Escrow.com would never email you Western Union wiring instructions,
or payment info. You must login for bank wiring.
13. Escrow sites with a dash in the name are a fraud i.e. Square-Trade-SafeHarbor.com,
Square-Trade-Yahoo.com
14. If someone you meet in an online dating site asks you to Western Union them money
to pay for surgery....Give Me A Break!
FACT: eBay warns you NOT to use Western Union to pay for items online! Don't fall
for spoof emails!
